The specialist behind the digital marketing campaigns for one of the
most famous cleaning and hygiene brands
After the interview with Andrei, Gun Media’s first employee, we decided that we couldn’t skip presenting current or former colleagues without talking about, and with, Denis Bâtiescu.
Most likely you’ve seen at least once in your life an advertisement for detergents or cleaning products that caught your attention. Well, one of the people behind these ads is Denis.
For her, Gun Media was her first contact with the world of marketing, and the fact that she is now the Digital Manager at Henkel Romania makes us feel like proud parents.
That’s why we thought we shouldn’t miss the opportunity to talk to her about her journey from Junior in online marketing to Manager, but also about who Denis is and what defines her in her everyday life.
Without further ado, below is the interview. We were thrilled to find out what people we’ve worked with are up to, alongside whom we’ve also created beautiful memories.
Tell us a bit about yourself. Who is Denis, how did you end up in Bucharest, what is your connection to Gun Media?
Who is Denis? Hmmmm, hard to say, but I’ll say how I think (and hope) others perceive me: A person full of energy, who loves to laugh and talk a lot. I ended up in Bucharest like most people: I came to study, I fled from the province, haha. Gun Media was my first job, where I learned a lot of things, met great people, and where I ended up because I love to talk a lot.
What are your passions and how do you like to spend your free time?
I’m passionate about very different things. I really like sneakers, I’m passionate about makeup & skincare, and in my free time, I prefer to relax, read, or be very close to nature.
Now let’s move on to the professional part. We’re curious about what you’re doing today and what your job entails.
Today, I’m the Digital Manager @Henkel Romania, in the laundry and home care division. My job involves managing all digital marketing activities for our brands, including Persil, Perwoll, Bref, Pur, etc.
Why digital marketing?
It just happened! It wasn’t something predetermined. I remember that when I applied for a job at Gun Media, I didn’t know what I was getting into, and my responsibilities grew as I gained experience. Along the way, I realized how much I like it and how many opportunities and possibilities for development there are in this field.
How was your experience as a junior in digital marketing? What did you know about this field, how did you manage to learn, what were the challenges?
It was a very, very intense experience as a junior – I had some great opportunities to work with important clients, which forced me to constantly push myself and be curious, and that’s how I managed to learn. There were numerous challenges because the dynamics were very high, and you had to be always prepared to understand new businesses, different types of clients, and buying habits.
Many of us flirted with other fields before discovering marketing. How did you earn your first money?
Hmm, I made my first serious money at Gun Media because it was my first job, I went straight into the field, so to speak. Before that, I dabbled in handmade jewelry for a summer, and I think I made a few hundred lei, together with my best friend.
Looking back to your college days, can you say that your dreams have come true?
College is a period of continuous search, or at least it was for me. I sought to learn, to try as many things as possible, to discover what I like, to meet as many people as possible. I graduated in Advertising from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences, and there were 2 types of students in the college: those who wanted to be art directors (who had inclinations in graphics) and those who wanted to be copywriters (where I found myself). However, I ended up working in digital, but college helped me a lot because the foundations were laid there.
You worked with us for 3 years. Can you share a memory that has stayed with you and that you associate with Gun Media?
There are so many, but among them is my interview with Robert, and the fact that we shook hands at the end of the interview, he liked me so much, haha! Besides that, the legendary darts game, for sure! And the board game nights, always super fun!
What did you learn at Gun and how did the experience gained here help you?
At Gun, I learned most of what I know now, the basics, the technical stuff, but also the big picture, which I developed a lot in the last period.
What are the biggest achievements you’ve had over time through this field?
The biggest achievement is the fact that I met a lot of great people, passionate about marketing too, and some of them are now my friends.
Tell us about 3 campaigns you worked on and enjoyed the most.
It’s hard to say because many of them were great! I definitely enjoyed the Black Friday period the most because it’s an event awaited by everyone, from agencies, clients, to the end consumer.
What tips & tricks can you give us when it comes to digital marketing for international brands?
I don’t necessarily believe in the idea of tips & tricks because it’s important to have a unified approach, and there’s no shortcut to make your way easier. However, to answer the question, it’s very important to work on brand awareness through all available channels, and when it comes to channels, obviously I’ll mention TikTok (if the brand’s field of activity can use this channel in the most natural way possible).
What qualities do you think have helped you evolve?
I think more than anything, my way of being has helped me become who I am now, ambition, and the desire to show myself that I can do anything I set my mind to.
What future plans do you have?
This period has taught me that the plans you make can be changed in a second, so I’ve decided to be more spontaneous and travel more.
We believe that everyone can teach you something useful on the path to building a career. So please leave us your advice for those who want to work in digital marketing.
Be curious, always stay up to date with the latest trends, be open to new things, and don’t limit yourself😊.
